OBSTETRICS

First Trimester

Up to 13 weeks gestational age, the fetus grows up to 7.5cm in length. The development of the eye, toes, joints, nerves, circulatory and digestive systems are clearly visible in 3 dimensions.

Preparation: One and a half hours before your appointment empty your bladder.  Then over the next half hour drink 1 liter of water and be finished drinking 1 hour before your appointment time. Do not go to the toilet.

Second Trimester

Weeks 17 through 22 show rapid development of the skeletal, digestive, circulatory, and nervous systems. The fetus grows up to 33cm in length.

In the second trimester, 3D/4D ultrasound is beneficial in the anatomical survey and detection of any abnormalities.

Third Trimester

In Weeks 22 and beyond, the fetus begins to fully develop organs and nerves. A rapid weight gain begins and most move into the head-down position for birth.

4D ultrasound provides clinical utility in the third trimetser through analysis of fetal movement and biophysical profile.
